Two New Ways to Help!

Yoga and Gardening

Since early last fall, OAR has offered meditation and yoga each week to our clients.  One of our volunteers comes and leads this in our offices.  Our wonderful volunteer also works at a local yoga studio downtown and presented the opportunity to be able to rent the studio once per month so our participants could go on a field trip and experience yoga and meditation outside of OAR.  The cost to rent the space is $25 per hour and we would like to start doing this once per month.  Would you like to sponsor a month or two for clients to experience yoga at the studio?  Just click here to donate and note that it's for yoga!

We're going to grow a garden and we need your help.  Part of an individual's successful reentry into our community is finding meaningful, positive things to fill their time.  Some of the client's have expressed interest in growing a small vegetable garden in raised beds.  Our Community Engagement Coordinator, Hannah Brechlin, has been working with Board Member Kristin Reed to make this become a reality.  Kristin has a vast knowledge and much experience with gardening and relationships with other nonprofits that can partner with OAR to make this happen.  Hannah has recruited many volunteers that are ready to work alongside of our clients in growing the vegetables and also teaching nutrition classes for folks that don't have access to kitchens.  We even have a volunteer that has agreed to build the raised beds for us, we just need the supplies.  Below is a list of things that are needed to get started.  If you're able to help by donating some of the supplies, please contact Hannah at (804) 643-2746 or hbrechlin@oarric.org.  If you would like to donate financially to help with this project, just click here to do so and note garden in the donation form.

Thank you!

Today is a new day at OAR.

Today we celebrate, encourage, accept and help our clients re-integrate successfully into the community. With us, they don’t have to hide their backgrounds.
Today, OAR strives to be part of the returning citizen’s journey back to a life of integrity, dignity, and hope. We will offer guidance in a multitude of ways, ranging from employment assistance to emotional and community support. We will support our clients in their path forward.
Today, our goal will be 100% success with our clients. Today will be different. Tomorrow will be better. The future will be stronger.
